Artist Statement
I create mixed-media digital and analog collages, deliberately choosing urban posters and printed ephemera as tangible traces of the media environment within physical space. My artistic practice addresses the crisis of human identity dissolved within algorithmic data streams, information noise, and the digital footprints of the contemporary media environment.
The layering of physical paper and digitized fragments serves as a material reflection of the massive volume of information we navigate daily online and on the streets. By confronting raw torn textures, typographic fragments, and halftone dot patterns, I dismantle their original commercial function and translate this visual chaos into a new graphic structure.
Within this dense stream of media data, I uncover and reveal latent forms, ranging from disciplined abstract compositions to faded silhouettes and phantom masks, capturing the fragile boundary between individuality and the noise that threatens to consume it.
Artist Bio
Andrei Pronin / Calapso (b. 1984) is a contemporary Argentine artist and master printmaker of Russian origin, living and working in Buenos Aires. He creates mixed-media digital and analog collages, utilizing urban posters and printed ephemera as tangible traces of the media environment in physical space. His artistic practice addresses the crisis of human identity dissolved within algorithmic data streams.
The artist’s background is deeply rooted in the fine art printing industry. Previously, as the founder and director of a fine art print studio in Moscow, he spent years producing exhibition projects, managing the full cycle of silkscreen and giclée production for Russian artists, representatives of the new wave of street art, and institutions such as the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Triumph Gallery, the RuArts Foundation, and others.
His exhibition history dates back to his studies at the British Higher School of Art and Design (University of Hertfordshire, Moscow), where he participated in group projects. He has since showcased his work across various exhibitions and art fairs. In his current practice, the artist transforms the visual chaos of printed layers and digital footprints into a new graphic structure, uncovering latent forms that range from disciplined abstraction to phantom imagery.
